American Horse Publications Recognizes EQ with multiple first-place awards.
Equestrian Quarterly was honored with significant accolades at the American Horse Publications 2014 Annual Awards Competition held in Charleston, S.C., on June 21. A panel of 25 judges awarded EQ with first place prizes in the overall General Excellence, Publication Cover, Editorial Design, and Event Coverage categories.EQ Editor Stephanie Peters and Deputy Editor Jill Medinger were on hand to accept the awards. Equestrian Quarterly earned the Best in Excellence award in the category of publications with circulations of over 15,000 for the second consecutive year.”Equestrian Quarterly is absolutely striking,” the competition judges commented. “The brand is ‘class,’ and the designers never veered from that concept when they were putting this magazine together. The typography, photo treatments, use of color and graphic elements are all handled expertly.”

EQ’s Lyle Lovett cover from the winter issue caught the judges’ eyes as the standout for first place in Publication Cover Page with Circulation Over 20,000. George Kamper, EQ’s Director of Photography contributed the stunning portrait of the mega-star and reining enthusiast that the judges described as both gritty and gorgeous.

The breathtaking feature article in EQ’s summer issue, “Let There Be Light” was awarded first place honors in the category of Editorial Design for a Publication with Circulation Over 20,000 out of a field of 48 entries. The confluence of science and art in barn design is illustrated by striking photography and described by America’s premier equestrian architects and builders in the winning article.

“This is a magnificent editorial design,” raved the judges. “Every element in this layout is well thought out and extremely complementary to every other element creating a delightful visual. This is truly a winner.”

In the category of Event Coverage in the Editorial Design category, Kamper’s expertly laid out photographs of Le Saut Hermés were described by the judges as spectacular.

“The cover montage is magnificent,” continued the judges. “The irregular cut out of the Palais against the black background literally smashes the boundaries. The eye swings around the page spiraling into the center.”

Just celebrating their second anniversary, Equestrian Quarterly was rewarded in their inaugural year by the American Horse Publications Annual Competition held in Colorado Springs, CO as the 2013 Best Overall Equestrian Magazine in America. American Horse Publications is the premier organization for the equine publishing media industry and includes virtually every major equestrian media outlet.
