Academy Award nominee Josh Brolin is set to narrate Horse Power, a new IMAX documentary scheduled to hit giant screens in early 2026.
B”rolin, who has a personal background as a horseman, brings a natural authenticity to the project, which explores the deep-seated connection between humans and horses across the globe.
The film is produced by the Emmy-winning team at Plimsoll Productions in partnership with American Wild Horse Conservation (AWHC). Rather than focusing on a single discipline, the documentary takes a broad look at the species, featuring everything from the desert stallions of the East to the domestic therapy horses that provide emotional support to people today.

A significant portion of the film focuses on the wild mustangs of the American West. Many of the most striking sequences were filmed in Fish Springs, Nevada, capturing the Pine Nut wild horse herd in their natural habitat. By showcasing these animals on an eighty-foot screen, the production team aims to create a visceral experience that highlights both their power and the ecological challenges they face.
AWHC’s involvement extends beyond the screen. They are using the film’s release to launch a global education initiative. Since only about one percent of the six million horses in the United States currently live in the wild, the organization hopes the documentary will serve as a conversation starter regarding the conservation of these herds and the federal management practices that affect them.
The timing of the release is also intentional, coinciding with the Year of the Horse in 2026. The creators describe the project as a blend of high-end natural history filmmaking and a tribute to a shared cultural heritage. For those who appreciate the science, history, or simply the presence of horses, the film offers a rare, immersive look at their world. It is a story designed for the scale of the giant screen, focusing on the movement and spirit of an animal that has played a vital role in the human story for centuries.
About American Wild Horse Conservation
American Wild Horse Conservation (AWHC) is the nation’s leading organization dedicated to protecting America’s wild horses and burros and ensuring they remain free in the wild.
Through science-based research, field programs, and advocacy, AWHC advances humane, sustainable conservation solutions across the United States. Although America is the birthplace of all modern horses, today only one percent of the nation’s six million horses live wild. These remaining herds face an ongoing threat: mass removals by federal helicopter roundups that permanently separate families and confine horses for life.
Horse Power and its accompanying education program provide a powerful platform to engage new audiences, amplify awareness, and mobilize support for one of America’s most iconic species.
