Laura Graves talks about her competitive career in dressage. That dream has been fulfilled and continues to evolve with her trip to the Rio 2016 Olympics with her amazing partner, Dutch Stallion, Verdades—nicknamed Diddy.
Focused and determined, Graves has ridden her way to the top tier of dressage riders in a relatively short period of time. Now described as having a telepathic understanding of her horse, she tells CNN it wasn’t always that way. “He was talented but he was almost impossible to ride.” Graves has worked hard and her efforts have paid off. “I know exactly how he’s feeling every day and know what to do to make him feel better if I need to,” she added. ‘I’ve known this horse his entire life. We’ve been through a lot of extreme highs and extreme lows.”
Graves’s determination, dedication, and team-based spirit made her the perfect candidate for Deloitte’s Road to Rio sponsorship program of U.S. athletes. Graves and Diddy are among the top-ranked dressage riders in the world.
