In a historic first for equestrian sport, April 2025 witnessed an unprecedented convergence of two pinnacle 5* competitions at the iconic Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event CCI5*-L presented by MARS Equestrian™ and the Kentucky International CSI5* presented by Hagyard Equine Medical Institute were held simultaneously, marking the first time that elite eventing and show jumping events of this caliber took place concurrently at the same venue.

This dual event showcased the highest echelons of equestrian athleticism. The Kentucky Three-Day Event, often dubbed an “equestrian triathlon,” challenged horse and rider pairs across the demanding disciplines of dressage, cross-country, and show jumping. Meanwhile, the Kentucky International CSI5* highlighted the agility, speed, and precision required to navigate complex show jumping courses with fences reaching 1.60 meters. The Kentucky Horse Park, with its world-class Rolex Stadium and expansive cross-country tracks, proved a fitting stage for this groundbreaking showcase.

Fans had the rare opportunity to witness both the endurance and bravery of cross-country and the nail-biting accuracy of show jumping in one weekend. This convergence also significantly boosted the sport’s global profile, drawing widespread media attention.

The event saw Germany’s Michael Jung claim a historic fifth Kentucky Three-Day Event victory aboard fischerChipmunk FRH, cementing his legendary status. World #10 Boyd Martin (USA) also delivered a standout performance, securing second place and having two other horses in the top seven. Great Britain’s Harry Meade finished an impressive third and fourth. The challenging courses were expertly crafted by designers Derek di Grazia for cross-country and Guilherme Jorge for show jumping.
