A Big Sky, Montana, Horse-Lovers’ Wedding

The pandemic disrupted their wedding plans, so they made their Big Sky Wedding their own with horses and hunting.

During the pandemic, Sarah’s big traditional wedding plans were disrupted–which ultimately led her to following her heart: Ditching the “societal standards” and doing it THEIR way: privately, surrounded by family, beautiful views of mountains, wildlife, and horses. Besides, Sarah was practically raised in a barn and could ride a horse before she could even walk. Her idea of fun is fishing, hunting, and riding – so, what better destination for her wedding than Montana?

Sarah’s idea of “getting ready coverage” included Zac fly fishing with his dad, future father-in-law, and brother. Her idea included having a couple of drinks with her sister in the cabin and doing her own hair and makeup. Though, she’d have much rather gone fishing.

Their families arrived at the ceremony site on top of the mountain with the help of a horse wagon. Sarah and Zac wrote their own vows in front of the people they loved the most, and then adventured the ranch and surrounding areas for some photos before heading back to the Saloon for a celebratory drink (or two).

Instead of a traditional reception, the couple and their families were shuttled by horse wagons to an open field on the other side of the mountain, where a live band played dirt-road country covers, served supper, and drinks from a minibar. Sarah, Zac, and their families two-stepped the night away.
