Kakslauttanen resort might be best known for its winter accommodations in glass igloos, with the Northern Lights brightening the sky above your bed.

It is located 250 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland.Since 1973 when it’s founder’s car broke down in the wilderness here, and he fell in love with the site, Kakslauttanen have been offering four seasons of incredible beauty of the arctic wilderness. The site of the breakdown has grown into a luxury resort destination which features a variety of interesting accommodations. There are cozy log cabins and snow igloos which are little ice hotels where visitors can get warm in a very cold place. And perhaps most astoundingly, there is the field of glass igloos where nothing can obstruct your view of the Northern Lights.

Check out the world-famous winter wonderland  in our Feb/March issue.

Iglut_4But we were curious what the other season are like at Kakslauttanen. It turns out the summer is pretty special above the Arctic Circle, too. Admire the magical midnight sun in June and July. Bathe in the world’s largest smoke sauna. Hike in the Finland’s largest national park accompanied by a husky. Pan for gold at the same spot where the gold rush in Lapland began in 1870’s. Feed the reindeer and meet the Santa. Pick berries from the pure nature and drink water from the crystal clear streams. Admire the arctic sky and if lucky, the miraculous Northern lights in their world-famous Glass-igloos from August 22nd onwards.

Northern lights season: 22nd August – end of April.
Autumn color season: end of August – 20th September.
