For equestrian travelers visiting Louisville, The Grady offers a stylish, history-rich home base just minutes from Churchill Downs and the Bluegrass region’s Thoroughbred country.
In a city better known for bourbon barrels and Derby Day, the Grady has emerged as Louisville’s most thoughtful new boutique hotel. Set on West Main Street in a beautifully restored 19th-century iron-front building, the 51-room property opened as a love letter to the city’s literary and cultural history. The hotel is named after Grady Clay, the late Louisville journalist and urbanist whose writing helped shape the American conversation about cities.

The design is sophisticated and unmistakably American: leather banquettes, deep emerald greens, brass accents, library-style millwork, and a curated collection of regional art that nods to the Bluegrass landscape and to Louisville’s particular brand of Southern grace. Rooms range from cozy to expansive, each with handsome custom furniture, plush linens, and bathrooms appointed in marble and unlacquered brass.
Food and drink are central to the experience. Wild Swann, a restaurant and bourbon distillery located in the building’s basement, marries Southern fundamentals with new-American polish, alongside one of the city’s deepest bourbon programs—flights, single barrels, and rarities served by a staff who knows the difference. A library off the lobby is a favorite gathering space.

The Grady is steps from the Frazier History Museum, Whiskey Row, and the riverfront walking path. For horse-loving travelers, the hotel is ideal during Derby and Oaks week, with concierge-arranged access to Churchill Downs and the surrounding Thoroughbred country. It is a hotel that earns its place in a city that knows the difference between a good hotel and a great one.
