Four-time Olympian and Maryland 5* champion Boyd Martin gives us a peek behind the scenes in Equestrian Living’s EQ Favorites — and it’s every bit as charming and down-to-earth as you’d expect.

His greatest extravagance? Windurra USA, the 100-acre training facility in Pennsylvania that he and wife Silva have poured their lives into building. His proudest riding achievement is harder to pin down — from winning Adelaide 5* at just 22 years old to Olympic appearances and most recently the Maryland 5* — but he says each one has been a massive high.

When it comes to unwinding, Boyd’s version of relaxation is hopping on his John Deere tractor, headphones in, moving jumps around his cross-country course in the evening quiet. His favorite TV show? COPS. His fragrance of choice? Axe spray deodorant. And his go-to home-cooked meal is 2-Minute Noodles, best served with a sprinkle of cheddar cheese.

On his bedside table is Winning by Tim Grover — a book his friend Steffen Peters recommended — and his playlist is anchored by Placebo. His favorite show venue is Kentucky Horse Park, which he calls the most perfect piece of topography for eventing in the world.

If he weren’t an equestrian? A professional gambler in Las Vegas. Lucky for us, he chose horses!
